PLG : History
I learned about Ruby Bridges and she was born in Mississippi and moved to Louisiana when she was four years old. There were things that people with black skin couldn’t do, like go into schools that said white people only, even restaurants and even drinking fountains and lots of other things. I feel like that feels silly. Who even made that up?
The teachers at the black school gave their students a test to see if they should or shouldn’t go to white schools and the test was hard for Ruby but she did well on the test. There were angry protestors that didn’t want Ruby to come to white schools. But they had people protecting Ruby when she walked to school. Every student and the parents and teachers walked away from the white school just because Ruby came to their school. But there was one teacher that wanted to teach Ruby, her name was Mrs. Henry. That’s also my brothers name.
Rubys father lost his job and her grandparents lost their farmland just because they were standing up for their rights. That just sounds so silly and makes me feel upset. I don’t know what I would do if I had to live a life like that.
Ruby and her Family did not give up. And Ruby encouraged many people and even Eleanor Roosevelt wrote a letter to her. More white people and even black people came back to school and integrated. I think that was a pretty good thing that happened. The end.
